Why does the religious right and the religious left try and twist religious text to their morality?

Why do we look at religious texts and pick and choose the morality of it to suit our purposes. Wether its the Bible or the Qu'ran, on the issues of homosexuality, abortion, war, why do we as human beings look in these texts and get different meanings.

Why has God not given us a book that clearly states how he feels about Gay marriage, about abortion, about war, about what form of government to have, because clearly the books that we have now don't do the job since there are disagreements amoungst people.

If God would like to choose me to be his prophet I will listen to him. God I await your call or email, or for you to send an angel. I will recite what you give me O lord.

And then give us what it is once and for all how to live our lives.

Is everyone ok with that? Why does the religious right and the religious left try and twist religious text to their morality?
They are PEOPLE! Humans -YUK!
Sounds like a plan. I'll hold my breath while I wait. Why does the religious right and the religious left try and twist religious text to their morality?
In the name of God. There is a problem. It is some thing we all share. We have an idol that we must fight. It is the self and due to people's emotion and biased tendencies, they will corrupt a faith with the intention of helping people or for personal gains. We must go to those who have reached a level to make decisions and are the professionals of religion. You will see them thin from hunger and fasting, not living in castles, and with no ornaments on their cloths and not too extreme in showing themselves has the opposite of these things. There will be no images of idolatry. Every thing is clear and there is one truth and no one can argue about it. We must seek it and the One Entity of Higher Being that you believe in will not allow your pursuit to be in vain and the truth will seek you. The two extremes try to counter each other but it is always best to stay in the middle path which to the best of my knowledge in research is Shia Islam as prophesised by almost every single religion. Gay marriage is forbidden b/c in modern terms, you can call it inorganic/unnatural, against the tendencies of science and metaphysics; abortion is okay when the life of the mother is in danger; also okay if it is done early but with financial penalties to not play with life and take responsibility lightly, war is good in defense of yourself and the oppressed. Look into your conscious and you will see things as 'common sense.' Read and research for yourself and take every thing into consideration. History will reveal the truth it hides which is most obvious in Shia texts. If many aim to deceive you then be sure there is one who is not and there you will depend on your intelligence and you will be successful to the dismay of many who will hinder your path b/c they can not see the light. If you are skeptical, then that is a good sign you are not among the sheep and have hope of what you were born with and your natural right to be successful by using your mind which is your greatest asset. I hate writing much, but perhaps it is some thing that we all needed. And I apologize for any inaccuracies. Life is short so we must take it seriously and not be in shame on the Day of Judgement. Why does the religious right and the religious left try and twist religious text to their morality?
I believe that it is because every individual interprets things differently. Everybody concludes different things when they "read between the lines".

GOD has given us the ability to choose. Whether it is actual choices we as humans make, or things or ideas that we as humans choose to believe, think, or act on.

Honestly, I think that the bible is not always meant to be taken completely lilterally. There are certain ideals and etc. that are to be taken and "tailored" into what it is that each person believes that it is that is being implied towards them and their own lives.

I also believe that there are certain "codes" if you will. You know, things that are said without needing to be black and white text "said".

I think that people should read and use it according to how it pertains to them and how they relate to it as an individual.

I guess everything will be straightened out on judgement day?

if in fact all is as it is promised!
There is no religious left and no religious right, stop trying to interject politics into it. And I don't pick what suits me, I try to live by the Ten Commandments. If YOU can do that, you'll have the answer to your overly long-winded questions. Try one question at a time next time.
The reason that this hasn't happened is, in my opinion, is because there is no God, AND, if there was, why would a being powerful enough to create a universe really give any sort of damn about some miniscule little people on one little planet? I also agree with the answer directly above (Mikela? Sorry, forgotten how it was spelt) and have said a similar thing a few times on here myself - Bible is not direct word of God (if you believe such a thing) was written by humans and has been translated and retranslated and put together and taken apart and bits left out (apocrypha) so many times it's the work of people.

It's actually hugely egocentric, isn't it, for human beings to assume that God made the whole universe just for us? That God would actually have the slightest interest in any of us? Had never thought of that before! Wow! Religion is an attack of the ego...hmm....may have to go off and think about that for a while...
If you take something rigid and twist it too much, it will break to pieces. This is reality. If you support gay rights, abortion, gender equality and human dignity and respect, you will not find anything in the Bible to support you. Thus, your only response must be to reject the Bible. I can't interpret it any other way.
I'm pretty sure God doesn't exist. He did a lot of walking and talking with people before recorded history and nothing since then.
Nope. I am not OK.

Have you ever seen anybody being there and back? Have all the people talked like that they have been there and know it all? People speak as if they have been there themselves. Religion is a self served system (spiritually, monetarily, (un)purposely, whatever...). Trust your feeling and try some judgements. Don't be deceived by the appearance.
Because the bible is like plasticity.

It adapts to us. We are not meant to adapt to the bible because we change with time-
As the Bible is an imperfect book written by a collection of human writers over thousands of years, I don't think it could be expected to give unambiguous guidance on moral matters. People believe what they want and twist the religioius texts to fit what they say. Often without realizing it, I think.
Take your Bible %26amp; put it out in the wind %26amp; the rain, soon the paper on which the words are printed will disintegrate %26amp; the words will be gone.
Wow..... I hope you're just being silly today otherwise you've got a really really really really really really really big ego. And people like you are one of the reasons we're all screwed up. WOW
God has given us the answer in the Holy Bible. The thing is that people have twisted it's content to fit their purpose. I have heard everything from so many cults that have twisted the Word, and this is why we have atheism. You can hear from God, you need to pray, fast, and meditate. He's spoken to me, and has revealed to me many things that I had not seen before, but He knew why. Alot of things are common sense. We keep killing babies, where's our future? If a man and man/ woman and woman can't procreate, where's the future, no children? You have relations with different people, what are your chances of catching STD's? Common sense, God's plan.
